Hey Mason! We've been adding some great new songs lately. Why do you pick those songs in particular?

Because I like them. Haha, just kidding. There is a lot that goes into song selection for our music team. I try to stay in touch with what's happening in the Christian music movement. What are other churches playing? What's hot on Christian radio? Which of these songs make sense when considering our congregation makeup and the resources we have available as a music team?

Once these questions are answered, it's time to dig into the songs from a spiritual level and see what God has to say about them.

What do you look for in songs you pick?

Again, there are several critical factors that qualify a song for consideration at Trinity New Life - or any church, for that matter;

1) Lyrics must be consistent with the Bible.
We can't assume that just because we trust the writer or the publisher that the song is true. We are all prone to mistakes in communication. Also, words sometimes mean different things to different people. As the worship leader, it is my responsibility to make sure that what I am asking our congregation to sing is clear and in-line with the Gospel.

2) Music must be culturally and periodically relevant.
Just because a song is Biblical does not mean it "fits" a specific church congregation. A church with an older congregation might require all hymns. A youth service set would likely include edgier song choices. I also feel it's important to stay current with song choices (i.e. songs written in the last few years). There's nothing wrong with pulling out an old favorite, but I like to use songs that are fresh to the church.

3) Songs must be musically accessible.
This goes for the band and the congregation. If the band is pretty inexperienced, it wouldn't make sense to choose to play the latest Israel Houghton (complex) song. Also, I try and choose songs that are within the sing-ability of the congregation. This is very subjective since some churches can sing almost anything and some struggle with simple melodies.

Just wanted to give you a heads up that we're celebrating communion together this weekend, as we do the first service of each month (most of the time). We're trying to give you more time to prepare your hearts and minds so that we can celebrate Jesus personally and collectively.

Here's a helpful meditation for you to read beforehand:

For I pass on to you what I received from the Lord himself. On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this to remember me.” In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this to remember me as often as you drink it.”

For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until he comes again. So anyone who eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord unworthily is guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. That is why you should examine yourself before eating the bread and drinking the cup. For if you eat the bread or drink the cup without honoring the body of Christ, you are eating and drinking God’s judgment upon yourself.

Take time to prepare your heart to not only proclaim Jesus, but to worship his as well. We're going to experiment a bit with the service, and move more of the musical worship to the end in response to the message and communion. I think it's going to be an AWESOME time.

I don't think you can go wrong with cotton; it's a nice, breathable, lightweight fabric and we're in Florida, so it's hot.

Holy cow, are you going to be like this the whole time?

Well, not the whole time, but you can expect a smattering of sarcasm. Honestly, most people will dress in casual weekend attire, so dress how you feel comfortable and you’ll fit right in. I'll be wearing jeans (and a jacket, since it's Easter), if that helps.

Do you have anything for my kids, or will I be trying to shush/bribe them to behave for the service?

No bribery needed! We've got an AWESOME kids' environment called New Life Kids. It's for ages 6 weeks through 5th grade. You can learn more by clicking here. If it is your first Sunday, we encourage you to print out this registration form, fill it out, and bring it with you to save you some time on Sunday morning. For the sake of safety we have everyone fill out the registration the firs time, but you've already managed to get everyone there with minimal food spilled on their clothes and probably don't want to do paperwork with a kid in your arms, so just knock it out now and give yourself time to get some free coffee at the Welcome Table!

You're not going to make me stand up or raise my hand 'cause I'm there for the first time, are you?

Heck no. In fact, we've actually got a really nice gift for you at the Connect Table after the service to say "thank you" for joining us. Any other "what will it be like?" questions are probably answered here.

Should I bring anything?

Well, if you have a Bible, you can bring that, but if you don't have one, we'll be more than happy to give you one.

Superstars, we are just a few days away from our Easter service. I'm going to ask TWO things from you:

1) INVITE ANY AND EVERYONE YOU CAN THINK OF! People are NOT offended when you invite them to an Easter service, so take advantage of it! How can they believe unless they hear?! Get five easy ways to pray and five easy ways to invite right here.

2) If you are not serving COME 10 MINUTES EARLY! Guests usually come early, and to create a great environment for them make 10:20 the new 10:30! Blame it on me if your spouse complains!

3) If you have friends with kids coming with you for the first time, help make their first-time checkin a breeze by have them print and fill out our Registration Form, and bring it with them. Boom! Checked in!

AND PRAY!!! I'm preaching the gospel, I'm asking for responses to salvation, I'm believing to see the kingdom expanded tomorrow. Will you join me?

Does Rom. 12:1-2 mean that all worship is equal, as long as it is authentic?

I believe so. The hardest thing to judge is someone's heart, both for us, and at time, for them. Jesus, in his own words in John 4, says that God is looking for worshippers in "spirit and truth." If we're worshipping in truth (within the confines of orthodox belief) and in spirit (meaning it's not confined to a physical location) it is possible to do anything for the glory of God (1 Cor. 10:31).

How do you suggest we balance our own preferences and how we connect with God, and the need to accept aspects of a church/worship style that don't work best for us?

This is a question with no clean answer, but requires us to work in wisdom and discernment from Christ. To try and find a perfect church, one that lines up with every preference and personality trait you'd like it a futile search, one that can be very damaging. We can keep looking over and over, never find EXACTLY what we want (because it doesn't exist), and it keeps us out of community, it keeps us from committing, it keeps us from ever having to engage and commit to anything or anyone.

However, we don't have to go so far as attending a church that we hate, that we can't connect with, or that doesn't have any of the ministry opportunities that resonate with how God's gifted and created us. God has diversity in personalities, gifting, talents, and churches. There's nothing wrong with that; everyone can't be everything to everyone else. What we have to ask is not "Do I like everything that the do here?" but "Is God calling me to be a part of this body?" God fits people into the body (1 Cor. 12:12-27), and it's up to him to put us there. If we ask where we will be happiest and most comfortable, we may miss God. If we ask where God wants us, we will have the most amount of happiness, joy, and fulfillment.

Part of the message stressed doing things in our lives that benefit others. Many business decisions are made that may not be beneficial for the employees. Do such decisions go against God and worship?

On the surface, no.

The larger questions that must be asked are "Did ungodly decisions (stealing, lying, immorality) bring us to this decision? Was a decision to let someone go done with character, dignity, honor, respect? Were they treated well? Were they given opportunities to improve?"

Hiring and firing, business growth and downsizing can happen when people are honoring God and when they are ignoring him. However, the ability to treat people in a godly and honorable way is present in every situation. It might seem counter-intuitive, but there is a way to worship and glorify God when letting someone go.

What suggestions do you have to the congregation to help us get 'in the zone' for church?

Fill up during the week with Jesus, and the come overflowing on Sunday. If you've got kids, don't try and show up at 10:30, because you have kids you'll probably be late, and if you're gonna check them in that will take a few more minutes, and it might be 10:45 before you are able to think about what's going on. And if you're late every week, move your start time back, it's time to admit defeat on a 5 minute prep time to get out of the house. .

Honestly, the best thing to do is show up at 10:20. You'll get the kids checked in (check-in opens at 10:15), get your coffee, and be able to lock in when the music starts at 10:30. Can you imagine how hard it is for the Music Team to lead people when half of the people are moving around and not focused. Help them out and help yourself out. Try getting there early, trust me.

Turn off the angry talk radio and throw in some music instead. Read your Bible more than at red lights during the week. Try praying. Try something radical and pray out loud.

More than anything, come ready to give, sow, pour out, not to take. Determine to bless someone. Determine to make a real connection with someone. Make it about Jesus, not your looks, your appearance.

Make it all, every day, every moment, about Jesus.

Just wanted to give you a heads up that we're celebrating Palm Sunday by ending our service by taking communion together. We're trying to give you more time to prepare your hearts and minds so that we can celebrate Jesus personally and collectively.

As we head into the final stretch of our Faith for Five initiative, we're going to take one day (the fifth!) to specifically focus our prayers on our Five, our Easter service, and for our church as a whole. Throughout Scripture we see fasting as a powerful spiritual discipline that grows us closer to God, fans into flames our passion for God, and strengthens our prayers to God (for more info on fasting, download our March fasting guide here).

Fasting usually involves abstaining from food. Some of you may be able to fast the whole day, but we're asking that EVERYONE take AT LEAST one meal and take the time you would have been eating to pray. Let's step out in faith and see Jesus transform hearts and lives!

BREAKFAST PRAYERS

Pray, by name, for all of your five.
Pray all of the prayers found on the Faith for Five Info Sheet.
Pray for the Five of everyone else in the church.
Pray for divine connections and open doors to extend invitations.
Pray for everyone to have the courage to invite people to church.
Pray for open hearts to receive those invitations.
Pray for God to meet each person as they invite, and each person as they're invited.

LUNCH PRAYER

Pray, by name, for all of your five.
Pray all of the prayers found on the Faith for Five Info Sheet.
Pray for the Five of everyone else in the church.
Pray for our Easter service, that every element would be done with excellence.
Pray that the presence of God would be tangible to everyone on Sunday morning.
Pray for the music team, for their rehearsals and songs. Pray they do more than just play, but lead us into God's presence.

Pray for the NLK team, pray that just as much Jesus is in their rooms. Pray the gospel would go deep in the hearts of the kids. Pray the workers have grace to lead and speak the truth of Jesus.

Pray for open hearts, for everyone, to see that there is salvation in no one but Jesus
Pray that revelation from the Holy Spirit and the grace to repent are present at the service

This past Sunday we announced an opportunity to change your life in less than two weeks by participating in a TEN DAYS mission experience this summer! In case you missed it, TEN DAYS is

...the short-term missions program of Every Nation Ministries, a Christian organization dedicated to church planting, campus ministry, and world missions. Named after the average length of these short-term mission trips, Ten Days was created to help foster a culture of missions within people and within local churches. We believe that when people experience travel and service to the people of another nation, the experience itself is as powerful and permanent as the trip's actual accomplishments. We believe ten days can change your life, your church, and the world.

We are believing for at least SIX people from our church to go on overseas missions trips this summer, to have their lives changed, to change lives, and to come home ready to change lives every single day. Are you one of the six?!

When our marriage series concludes we head right into a series celebrating our church's two-year anniversary, and then we roll into Palm Sunday and Easter. In other words...Here. We. Go!!!

Just as Jesus was dedicated as a child, we follow the same tradition and offer parents an opportunity to dedicate their children to God and declare their intentions to raise them in a Godly manner.

WHY DEDICATION?

Children are a gift from God. Psalm 127:3 proclaims, "Sons are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from Him." As believers we are called to recognize that children belong first and foremost to God. God in his goodness gives children as gifts to parents. You not only have the awesome responsibility of caring for this gift, but also the wonderful privilege of enjoying the gift. Because children belong to God and are given by grace as gifts to parents, it is only proper and appropriate that children be dedicated back to God.

NOT BAPTISM?

It must be stressed that we are dedicating and not baptizing. Jesus himself was dedicated as a child and then baptized as an adult. Baptism is done in response to repentance and faith in Jesus. Dedication is done by the parents and involves making a vow to completely submit their child to the will of God and raise that child in the ways of the Lord.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities God has entrusted to Christian parents include continuously praying for their children (Job 1:5), instructing them in the way of the Lord (Proverbs 22:6), setting a godly example (Proverbs 20:7), and disciplining them as the Lord would discipline us (Proverbs 29:15,17; 13:24). These responsibilities can only be fulfilled in Christ's strength (Philippians 4:13).

YOUR COMMITMENT

We ask that you enter into the following commitment in the presence of God and his people: So that your child may walk in the abundant life that Christ offers, you vow by God's help and in partnership with the church, to provide a Christian home of love and peace, to raise them in the truth of our Lord's instruction and discipline, and to encourage them to one day trust Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

What does it mean to live a life with God?

Ready for another chance to SERVE THE CITY?!?!

This November we will be partnering with One Community Now (a collection of church in West Pasco that we are a part of) to provide winter coats for the Cold Weather Shelter, run by Impact Family Ministries (also a part of One Community Now). Click those linky-links in the last sentence to find out more about the actual ministries.

This is a great opportunity to provide a practical need to our local community! All you've got to do is bring your coats to the worship service on Sunday and we'll have a collection bin for them. Boom! City served!

One last though before you rush off to your closets: If you're a parent, take this opportunity to teach your kids the joy of serving and sharing. Explain what we're doing, and that we're doing it because Christ gave to use when we needed it but couldn't earn it, so we're doing the same thing. Pick out a few of their coats and let them choose which one to actually donate. Let them come into the service and place it in the collection bin. Begin a family tradition of serving and loving together!

While Clayton and Kelly drove to North Carolina to be with the Owens during the memorial service, an idea from our sister church in Tallahassee came to wear yellow during service to honor and remember Aria. Through just some quick social networking posts, our church joined in and responded in an amazing way. Trinity New Life Church is a member of One CommUnity Now, a "a network of churches, non-profit community organizations and business and community leaders working together throughout West Pasco County to serve and bring to Pasco the hope and love of Christ through our unified prayer, acts of service, compassion, and love."

This year we get the exciting opportunity to participate in the second annual Serve Day, which will take place on August 6th. Local churches around the county will be going to local schools to serve in whatever capacity the school requested. As luck (well, not really, I asked) would have it, we're getting the chance to serve the school we hold services in, Trinity Elementary!

The Serve Day will begin at 7:30am with prayer and refreshments at Trinity Presbyterian Church. The morning gathering will end at 8:30am, and we'll head over to Trinity Elementary for three hours of serving, finishing up at 12pm. There's multiple areas to serve in, including paining, cleaning, unboxing, laminating and room setup.

Don't let this opportunity to impact our community pass you by! We're looking for 30 volunteers for this event, so let's make it happen, everyone!!!

Pick Wednesday (May 19), Thursday (May 20) or Friday (May 21) to fast and pray for the move, to bless the school, and for the lives that will be changed there! Pray that God would be glorified and that many people are added to the kingdom of God!

PRAY AND PROVIDE

Next Sunday, May 15, we are believing to raise $3,500 to cover the cost of moving into our new home. We ask you to prayerfully consider this week how much God would lead you to give in partnering with us to facilitate life change.
