Devotion for November 1, 2017

8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. 10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

I love the way this passage perfectly brings together the realities that we are saved by grace AND created for good works. These 2 things were never meant to be at odds! We SHOULD perform the works of God if we have been saved and are being transformed by him!

Q: According to this scripture, what gift has God given us?

Q: Does the word “masterpiece” match the way that you see yourself as one of God’s children? What would change if you began to define yourself this way?

Q: Who do you know that doesn’t view themselves as a masterpiece created by God to do good works? How can you help them understand how God sees them today?
