1 PETER 4:12-13

Suffering for Being a Christian
12 Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. 13 Instead, be very glad—for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world.

Peter tells us that we will face fiery trials in our Christian faith; furthermore, he has the audacity to say that we should “be very glad” in our suffering! How can he say this? Well, he tells us that our trials make us partners with Christ in His suffering. Jesus experienced such agony on the cross for us, for our salvation. As a result of our salvation and faith, even in the face of suffering, we will soon experience the joy of seeing the glory of Christ.

Q: How are you to handle the fiery trials? What does it mean to be a partner in Christ’s suffering?

Q: When you experience hardships, how can you be joyful in your suffering? How can you live in freedom?

Q: How will I face the fiery trials in faith? How will I help another stand in faith today?
