1 PETER 5:8-9

8 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. 9 Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers[a] all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are.

Lions, mighty as they are, do not attack the strong. They attack the weak, the inattentive, the frail. Peter tells us to face our great enemy, the devil, and to be strong in our faith. We must be vigilant. We are not alone in our suffering, for the entire family of believers faces trials. The enemy cannot conquer us if we stay alert and maintain a strong faith in Jesus!

Q: What simile does Peter use to describe the devil? What instructions does Peter give you to face the enemy?

Q: Do most of the trials you face come from outside of you, or do they result from your own choices? When you face hardships, suffering, and pain, are you consumed by doubt and despair, or do you remain alert and strong in your faith?

Q: How will you help another to be strong in the faith today?
