John 19:28-30

28 Jesus knew that his mission was now finished, and to fulfill Scripture he said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of sour wine was sitting there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips. 30 When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and released his spirit.

Romans 6:1-7

Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? 2 Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it? 3 Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death? 4 For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.

5 Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was. 6 We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. 7 For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin.

Q: What do you strive for? What pushes you into action everyday? Is it your job? Family? Trying to find happiness? What things have you set as life-long goals? How do you prioritize them? Where does your relationship with Christ fall into those goals?

Q: As you try and make your life perfect, do you try and make your relationship with Christ perfect? Are you working by your own strength to make all things fall into place? Or do you understand Christ’s final words on the cross?

Q: Why are the words, “It is finished” important to you? What things do you need to declare an end to? What things did Jesus already declare an end to FOR you?
