Devotions for February 1, 2017

3 The Lord is slow to anger but great in power;
the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished.
His way is in the whirlwind and the storm,
and clouds are the dust of his feet.

Ask the Lord for rain in the springtime;
it is the Lord who sends the thunderstorms.
He gives showers of rain to all people,
and plants of the field to everyone.
2 The idols speak deceitfully,
diviners see visions that lie;
they tell dreams that are false,
they give comfort in vain.
Therefore the people wander like sheep
oppressed for lack of a shepherd.

The Bible promises that storms will come and where we, as Christians, stand in contrast to culture, most of us sense storms coming. But our emphasis shouldn’t be on preparing for the storm, but looking to see who you are with and what course you are going to take when the storm comes. Many doomsayers will stock pile things, but those that will survive the storms will do so because they know the way out and they have the right team with them.

Q: What do these two verses say about God and storms?

Q: Do you trust the builder of your house to not have the roof fall in on you? Do you trust the builder of your chairs to not collapse when you sit?

Q: Who are the people that you surround yourself with? Who is your “band of brothers”? Will they walk with you in the storm, or leave you because they are too scared?
