JAMES 4:6-10

6 And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say,
“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”[a] 7 So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. 9 Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.

OPPOSITE, BUT NOT EQUAL

We need an equally strong force of opposition to come against Pride in order to stop its affects in our lives. That force is humility. The ultimate step of humility is that to say, “I am not perfect. I am not all I should be and I can’t fix it on my own,” and then cry out to the one who created us. We need to move out of the way and allow God to move in our lives.

PERSONAL REFLECTION

Q:Write out verse six. What does God give generously?

Q: Have you laid down your life to follow Christ? In what ways have you put away your pride, in order to live a life pleasing to God?

Q:Humility for others is one of the best evangelism tools you have. How can you put away your own preferences and desires in order to raise the value someone else feels?
