Devotions for January 27, 2017

2 Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? 2 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

3 Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.

Our natural tendency is to have too high a view of ourselves. We often look down on others who are different than us because we are not looking up to God. The antidote to this sin sickness is to daily recognize our personal need for a Savior who loves us according to His mercy and grace (and not our moral performance).

Q: What do verses 3 and 4 encourage us NOT to do? What do these verses encourage us to do?

Q: Whose mind are we supposed to take on in order to combat our selfishness and pride?

Q: Do you owe an apology to anyone today? How might humbling yourself in this way be a vibrant testimony that Jesus is at work in you?
