Devotions for June 8, 2017

7 God blesses those who are merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 God blesses those whose hearts are pure,
for they will see God.
9 God blesses those who work for peace,
for they will be called the children of God.

In these verses from the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus was addressing the most hurting, broken and marginalized people. These were the people who were leaving it all to follow Him. He isn’t speaking to people in good situations and telling them, “if things go bad, do this…”

Q: What is Jesus saying about those who choose peace and mercy in these verses?

Q: Does peace and mercy equate to simply winning the argument? Does peace and mercy mean making amends in order to bring reconciliation?

Q: How can you show God’s love for others in the way that you show peace and mercy?
