JAMES 1:22-25

22 But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. 23 For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. 24 You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. 25 But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.

James encourages his audience to not just merely listen, or hear, the word and then not let it change the way you act. In fact, he implies that this is a useless endeavor. Just hearing the word and not obeying it is like looking at yourself in the mirror and then forgetting what you look like. On the other hand, obedience brings real freedom and blessing in your life.

Q: What freedom and blessings could you be missing out on in your life because of delayed, conditional, or a complete lack of obedience?

Q: Has the Lord spoken to you through the word, whether you read it yourself or heard it from someone else, and asked you to do something that you know needs to be done? What freedom and blessing could walking in obedience bring you?

Q: Do you know someone who is struggling with obedience that needs to know that they can have freedom and blessings and honor if they surrender to God and walk in obedience?
