Devotions for May 3, 2017

12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

JOHN 17:17

17 Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth

There are three primary disciplines that Pastor Casey talked about that help us walk fully in the sanctification that God has for us. The first is spending time in God’s Word. The second is spending time in prayer. The third is spending time in and living a life of worship. The next three days we will focus on these disciplines.

Q: What do these 2 passages tell us about God’s word? Does it seem to you that spending time in the word is a BIG part of sanctification?

Q: How often are you spending a significant amount of time in the word (as opposed to 5 minutes before you rush off to work)? Do you tend to sit and let it simmer or read a verse or two and then do something else?

Q: Are you currently accountable with someone who can help you get better in this discipline? If not, write down 2-3 names of someone who would be able to keep you accountable in reading God’s word consistently.
