HEBREWS 2:14-18

14 Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had[a] the power of death. 15 Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.

16 We also know that the Son did not come to help angels; he came to help the descendants of Abraham. 17 Therefore, it was necessary for him to be made in every respect like us, his brothers and sisters,[b] so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God. Then he could offer a sacrifice that would take away the sins of the people. 18 Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested.

Jesus is the Son of God. That makes him our brother. What an amazing thought to know the family we belong to! He shared our humanity which allows him to be a merciful and faithful High Priest in service to God. Because he suffered when he was tempted on this Earth, he is able to help us who are tempted.

Q: Jesus, our brother, lived among us and it enables him to help us on a very personal level, having endured temptations himself. How does this knowledge shape the way you view him in your life?

Q: God chose YOU for his family. Even when you are living in rebellion, His Son, your brother, still loves you and wants to help you in this life. How can you model this mercy and faith for your family?

Q: Even Jesus was tempted during his time on this Earth! He has provided the blueprint to how we overcome temptation and remain faithful to God. What words of encouragement will you give someone who is struggling with temptation?
