PROVERBS 15:1-4

A gentle answer deflects anger,
but harsh words make tempers flare.
2 The tongue of the wise makes knowledge appealing,
but the mouth of a fool belches out foolishness.
3 The Lord is watching everywhere,
keeping his eye on both the evil and the good.
4 Gentle words are a tree of life;
a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.

GALATIANS 5:13-15

13 For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. 14 For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”[a] 15 But if you are always biting and devouring one another, watch out! Beware of destroying one another.

PROVERBS 12:18

Some people make cutting remarks,
but the words of the wise bring healing.

YOUR SPEECH: BLESSING OR CURSE?

God designed the tongue to be used to bless and encourage. Far too often, our speech can be an instrument of destruction. In view of our failure, we need to submit ourselves to the power of the Holy Spirit to walk in self control.

PERSONAL REFLECTION

Q: According to Proverbs 15, what do gentle and wise words produce?

Q: In what situations do you need to more carefully guard your speech?

Q: Who can you specifically encourage today by commending their admirable qualities? Pick one person from church and one not from church ( consider a text, e-mail, FB message or good ole’ fashioned phone call :-).
