Can you tell us what songs you plan on adding in the near future, or at least what albums we should be listening to?

Sure! The next few songs we plan to add are "Furious" (Bethel Live), I Exalt Thee (Jesus Culture), One Thing Remains (Jesus Culture), Take Heart (Hillsong United), Bless the Lord (Jon Owens), and a whole bunch more! ARIZE by Jon Owens is one of my favorite all time worship albums and Jon is part of the Every Nation church family!

What albums are you really enjoying lately?

Israel Houghton "Power of One", Hillsong United "Aftermath LIVE in Miami", Jesus Culture "Awakening", and Bethel Live "Be Lifted High". Also digging Fitz and the Tantrums "Picking Up the Pieces", Civil Wars "Barton Hollow", and anything by Ben Folds if you're looking for something secular.

If I'm not big on singing or raising my hands, what would you say to me to help me be more comfortable worshipping through music?

I love reading what David did as they were carrying the ark back to the City of David. Let's look at that passage - "David, wearing a linen ephod, danced before the LORD with all his might, while he and the entire house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouts and the sound of trumpets."

Wow! David danced in the raw before the Lord(and the city). What did God say of David? "He is a man after my own heart". Could you imagine having God say that of you? I must admit, I do not dance before the Lord on a regular basis. It is my desire to give it all to Him, but I have some of the same challenges that people in our congregation do: inhibitions.

Yes, it's true; many of us are too worried about the person to our right or left, instead of focusing on God and what He wants. After all, it is God that we are giving our worship to, right? Now, no one on this side of Heaven will get it perfect. However, it's important to put more emphasis on what God desires from your worship than what anyone around you thinks. And remember, Worship is giving. It's not about us, or what receive, but what God receives.

So ask yourself, "When I worship, what does He receive?"

What other questions do you have for Mason about music at TNLC?

We asked TNLC's Music Director, Mason Simmons, to share his thoughts on some of the stuff going on with TNLC's Music Team. Here's what he said:

Hey Mason! We've been adding some great new songs lately. Why do you pick those songs in particular?

Because I like them. Haha, just kidding. There is a lot that goes into song selection for our music team. I try to stay in touch with what's happening in the Christian music movement. What are other churches playing? What's hot on Christian radio? Which of these songs make sense when considering our congregation makeup and the resources we have available as a music team?

Once these questions are answered, it's time to dig into the songs from a spiritual level and see what God has to say about them.

What do you look for in songs you pick?

Again, there are several critical factors that qualify a song for consideration at Trinity New Life - or any church, for that matter;

1) Lyrics must be consistent with the Bible.
We can't assume that just because we trust the writer or the publisher that the song is true. We are all prone to mistakes in communication. Also, words sometimes mean different things to different people. As the worship leader, it is my responsibility to make sure that what I am asking our congregation to sing is clear and in-line with the Gospel.

2) Music must be culturally and periodically relevant.
Just because a song is Biblical does not mean it "fits" a specific church congregation. A church with an older congregation might require all hymns. A youth service set would likely include edgier song choices. I also feel it's important to stay current with song choices (i.e. songs written in the last few years). There's nothing wrong with pulling out an old favorite, but I like to use songs that are fresh to the church.

3) Songs must be musically accessible.
This goes for the band and the congregation. If the band is pretty inexperienced, it wouldn't make sense to choose to play the latest Israel Houghton (complex) song. Also, I try and choose songs that are within the sing-ability of the congregation. This is very subjective since some churches can sing almost anything and some struggle with simple melodies.

Part two coming tomorrow, stay tuned!

Happy Thursday, everyone!

Just wanted to give you a heads up that we're celebrating communion together this weekend, as we do the first service of each month (most of the time). We're trying to give you more time to prepare your hearts and minds so that we can celebrate Jesus personally and collectively.

Here's a helpful meditation for you to read beforehand:

For I pass on to you what I received from the Lord himself. On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this to remember me.” In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this to remember me as often as you drink it.”

For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until he comes again. So anyone who eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord unworthily is guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. That is why you should examine yourself before eating the bread and drinking the cup. For if you eat the bread or drink the cup without honoring the body of Christ, you are eating and drinking God’s judgment upon yourself.

-1 Corinthians 11:23-29

Take time to prepare your heart to not only proclaim Jesus, but to worship his as well. We're going to experiment a bit with the service, and move more of the musical worship to the end in response to the message and communion. I think it's going to be an AWESOME time.

See you on Sunday!

Good Tuesday, everyone!

In cased your missed the weekend, or just wanted to know where to find them, here's the set list from last Sunday at Trinity New Life Church:

Kingdom Come by Jon Owens

We post this every week because we don't want you to just listen to songs on Sunday, we want you to be worshipping in the car, on the treadmill, at home...where ever! Grab them for a buck and be so full of worship by Sunday that you're lifting the level of faith in the room for everyone else. So spend the three bucks and get your worship on!

We post this every week because we don't want you to just listen to songs on Sunday, we want you to be worshipping in the car, on the treadmill, at home...where ever!
If you ever have questions you want answered, send them to info@trinitynewlife.com with Ask The Pastor in the subject line. Try and send them Sunday or Monday, if you can.

You read a passage at the beginning of service that had "lest ye be judged," and said this part of the passage is only in the KJV. Why is this part of the passage only included in the translation?

Whoops, just misspoke. I was joking that it seems that verse is only translated in KJV. It's in all the translations, right there in Matthew 7:1.

One of the 4 'Pillars' of our current series is 'Creation,' and you touched on the idea of the Evolution vs. Intelligent Design. What are some good resources I can refer to for a better understanding of how these two ideas work together?

There are a TON of them out there, but I'd start with Reasons.org. It is important to remember this is a debate, still, and there is disagreement within Jesus-loving, Bible-believing Christians. If one believes God is the creator and Jesus is the only way to be reconciled with God, differences in the belief of the science of creation of the world isn't something we should break fellowship over.

Regardless of whether we believe in God or not, you said we still need to have a belief none-the-less. Can you expand on some of the basic principles of belief held by Atheism, Agnosticism, and Christianity?

I'm going to paint with very broad strokes here, as I don't want to misrepresent two camps I'm not associated with the way Christians are almost constantly misrepresented:

Atheist believe there is no God. What they believe should guide our existence varies greatly. Agnostics believe that the existence, or non-existence of a supernatural being cannot be truly known, and as such the personality and characteristics of such a being cannot be known for certain. Christianity believes there to not only be a being outside of the created world, but this entity created the world, wants to be known, and can be known, and desires to be in relationship with us.

When speaking about God being Just, you said that God will judge us all equally. What about those who sin in the name of God (i.e.- Moses in the OT killing lots of people)?

Few thoughts here: First, just because something is in the Bible doesn't mean that God gives His approval. Second, sinning in "God's name" doesn't mean that God approves, either. God's name and God's will are two different things. Finally, it's important to remember that sin, right and wrong, are God's decision, not ours. So while lives may end, if their ending comes as a result of God's will, they are not sin. Let's pick this up in the next question...

The OT is filled with lots of murder. Is God unjust when he orders the Israelites to murder and destroy entire nations? What about those nations that were destroyed but not disobeying Him?

God is always just. We must remember spiritual and physical death is the appropriate punishment for sin, yet we never think any physical death, save in our sleep at a ripe old age, is a "just" method of death. It seems cruel to us (again, we are not the deciders of right and wrong), but we must remember everyone is born with a sinful nature and has sinned against God, so all are deserving of physical and spiritual death. God, knowing all things, can see all things and knows all things, thus knows who will and won't serve Him. If He chooses to end their life, knowing they are sinful and they will never turn to Him, their eternal destiny is the same regardless of who and when their life ends.

In reference to your Casey Anthony example, if one commits a serious sin, such as murder, and then are saved, will they go to heaven or are some sins unforgivable?

Yes, because we are all guilty of murder- our personal sins were enough to kill Jesus, the only innocent person ever. So if we are all murders and He forgave us, then other ones can be forgiven as well. Are their unforgivable sins? Only one: Luke 12:10 " Anyone who speaks against the Son of Man can be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven."

What does that mean? There are many opinions, I like the one shared by the commentators in the ESV Study Bible: "the persistent and unrepentant resistance against the work of the Holy Spirit and his message concerning Jesus."

Are we still punished in heaven for the sins that were forgiven?

Nope! 1 Peter 3:18a "Christ suffered for our sins once for all time..."

If no one is without sin and the quantity of sins vary per person, do punishments in heaven vary? Are there different "levels" of rewards? Are people who are able to confess their sins right before dying, clear of all sins when they go to heaven?

As I stated above, no punishment in heaven. But there will be rewards. As Revelation 20:11-15 shows us there will be two judgments: the first will be to see if our name is written in the Book of Life (a common illusion to having our lives in Christ). If they are, second judgement. If no, lots of fire and teeth grinding (see below). The second judgment is one to determine how well we lived our lives IN CHRIST (or what kind of materials we built it with 1 Corinthians 3:12-14), and for us to receive rewards accordingly. Those who make a GENUINE (key!) last-minute repentance will be accepted by Christ (see: thief on the cross next to Jesus) but may have little to no reward in eternity.

When someone is not saved through Jesus, you stated that they will die physically and spiritually. Does that mean that punishment for nonbelievers is being without God for eternity with body and soul being dead OR being without God and spending eternity in hell?

The absolute best article I've read on Hell comes from Timothy Keller, so why don't you just read that instead of me giving you something not as good?

Ok, that's it for today! Any other questions out there?

If you ever have questions you want answered, send them to info@trinitynewlife.com with Ask The Pastor in the subject line. Try and send them Sunday or Monday, if you can.

To transform physically, I need to eat right and exercise. What are a few actions I should be taking to transform spiritually? How can I get a good 'Jesus Workout'?

Read your Bible intentionally and pray to God every single day. There's just nothing better than that. There's nothing more foundational to shaping your soul than reading your Bible and praying. However, the goal is never to do the actions, but to use the actions to achieve a result: intimacy with God. The two best, but not only, ways are to read and pray daily.

I would STRONGLY suggest using a reading plan, because Bible roulette isn't a game you can win very often. I'd suggest using the 60 To Start reading plan, which also includes a daily prayer guide to help you get started. If you don't use YouVersion, you can download a version of it right here. Additional spiritual disciplines include fasting, singing, meditation, reading books, and serving. Here's a classic book on the subject.

You mentioned both losing weight and improving spiritually is about transformation, not short-term manipulation. However, short-term manipulation is necessary on a continual basis to achieve transformation. What are the top 5 short-term manipulation ideas you have for me to achieve a life transformation with Jesus?

Well, I don't think that short-term manipulation is a necessary pattern to achieve transformation. You don't want to continually have weeks of crash dieting or fasting to try and reach a weight goal. That type of short-term manipulation will probably lead to long-term damage.

What's more likely is to have short-term periods of intense training for a goal or to break through a plateau, but these are not activities sustainable in the long-term, nor should their appearance in our lives yearly, monthly, or sporadically replace the day-in, day-out disciplines, which produce a transforming life, not just a moment of transformation.

So what short-term activities are appropriate for the latter desire? Go to a conference. Read a book in a week. Fast for three to seven days. Listen to only worship music for a week. Ask someone who's spiritual walk you admire to meet with you and share some areas of strength and weakness you have. This is, of course, assuming you're reading your Word and praying daily.

If we are living a lie physically, it is apparent by not losing weight/ getting healthier. What 'indicators' can we look for in our own lives if we are living a lie spiritually?

I believe Jesus answered this best in Matthew 7:16 "You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act."

What language do they use? What actions do they take? What entertainment do they choose? What's their sexual fidelity to marriage? How do they treat a spouse, a child, a friend? Are they always grumbling and complaining, or are they a source of encouragement? Where does their money go? Where do they spend their time? Are they more excited about sports than God? Do they ever share their faith? Do they regularly attend and participate in corporate worship?

"You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act."

I'm training for a competition, but often I fall to temptation and eat 1 (or 20)cookies at night so that gets me off my game, but I just do cardio for an extra 10 mins the next day and it seems to even it all out. What should I do when I stumble during the week- is there something I can do to even out the process with my Jesus Training?

No, there's nothing you can do to "even out" the process, because it wasn't our actions that first earned the love and approval of Jesus. Now, that doesn't mean there aren't actions we should take. In Matthew 3:8 John the Baptist said we should repent, and "Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God."

If we find ourselves constantly falling into a sin even though we are genuine in our repentance to God, I'd suggest bringing in someone else, someone who has victory in this area, to hear your repentance and help bring accountability in this area, as we're told in James 5:16 "Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed."

Physical training is hard at first, but gets easier because I can see actual results, which motivate me to excel to the next level. But with spiritual training I don't see these same physical results. How can I see results and keep motivated in my spiritual training, even though I won't necessarily see immediate results?

Huge question here. How do we know if we're growing? Three things I heard another brilliant pastor say that I'm going to rip off and share with you: Christian growth is gradual, symmetrical, and inevitable.

Gradual- Many growth examples in the New Testament are ones of plants and the birth of children. Neither of these grow quickly, but they grow, and when you look back after a period of time you see great growth. Even when you plant a seed and don't see anything, there's still something growing beneath the surface. It just takes a little longer than we'd like. Just make sure you're giving it all it needs to grow! (see questions one and two above)

Symmetrical- Galatians 5:22-23 says "But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." This gives us a good list of what to look for in our lives, but is also offers a key to growth, in that Paul lists FRUIT and not fruit(S). We can't have love without peace or self-control without patience! Some will come more naturally because of our personalities, but we should look to see all of them grow at the same time.

Inevitable- In John 15:5 Jesus says "Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit." If we remain in Him (again, see Q1 and Q2 above) we WILL produce fruit. So even if we can't see it happening, we know that we will change IF we remain in him.

Ok, that's it for today! Any other questions out there?

A few weeks ago we introduced Mason Simmons as the new Music Director of Trinity New Life Church. The married father of two (with one on the way) was kind enough to answer some of our questions (really, we made him so you can get to know him. So ladies and gentlemen, we give you the answers of Mason Joseph Simmons:

Who is your favorite artist/ which artist most inspires you?

Secular influences include Billy Joel, Elton John, Ben Folds – love rock with a piano! Inspired by Jesus Culture, Bethel Live, Hillsong United, David (Psalms), Israel Houghton, & Jon Owens.

What genres of music do you listen to the most?

Pretty much all of it, except screamer rock, from Metallica to Tupac to Jesus Culture to Ray Charles.

What is your ‘method’?

I do my best to lead by example. Get in early, stay late. Be prepared. A great friend and former mentor has convinced me that there are no “problems”, only challenges and opportunities. I believe the most powerful worship experiences are Christ-lead. It's our responsibility to prepare and do our best to be excellent for Christ, but at the end of the day, it is His ‘style’ and His ‘method’ that should be magnified.

How long have you been doing worship music for churches?

I began leading Praise and Worship for my youth group at Pam harbor United Methodist Church when I was a sophomore in high school, and continued that until I graduated. In 2006, I began working in leadership with the music team at the HighPoint Church plant in Orlando. I was amazingly blessed to be a part of that ministry for 6 years.

What instruments do you play?

Primarily Keys/piano and guitar. However, I also enjoy the trumpet, banjo, harmonica, and any type of percussion from a full drum kit to bongos and congas.

So, I heard you just moved to the area. Where did you live before? Why did you move?

My wife and I spent the last 12 years living in the Orlando area. Katie graduated from the UCF with a degree in communications. I spent the last 10 years producing concerts, plays, musicals, and comedy shows at Orlando’s 3rd largest entertainment venue, The Plaza Live. With 2 small children and a 3rd on the way, Katie and I were ready to move back to our home to be closer to family. So after just over a decade in Central Florida, we relocated to our current home in Tarpon Springs.

Do you write your own worship music? If so, what’s the chances that we will get to hear it one of these Sundays?

I have written some Praise and Worship music. I feel like I constantly have a song in my heart. There's a pretty good chance you will hear an original if you stick around Trinity New Life long enough…

What advice do you have for aspiring artists looking to get involved with church worship music?

Practice and research. Never stop honing your talents and gifts. Always stay in touch with what is happening in the praise and worship community. But most importantly, stay close to Him. Stay in the word. Develop your relationship with Christ over all other things. The more confidence you have in Him and what plans He has for you, the more powerfully He can use the gifts he has blessed you with to create change in and transformation in both your life, and the lives of those around you.

Hello there!

If you're reading this there's a chance you're planning on attending Trinity New Life Church for the first time this Easter Sunday, and you're checking us out online to see what's up, poke around, see if we're kooky or not, and maybe figure out what you're supposed to wear to church. BTW, the answer to that last one is clothes. Please, no meat dresses, or I'll be thinking about BBQ the entire sermon.

Well, thanks so much for thinking about joining us! I'm writing this post to give you a few cheat codes to make your experience as easy as possible. If I miss anything, just email info@trinitynewlife.com and we'll get you an answer straight away!

OK, smart guy, what KIND of clothes I wear?

I don't think you can go wrong with cotton; it's a nice, breathable, lightweight fabric and we're in Florida, so it's hot.

Holy cow, are you going to be like this the whole time?

Well, not the whole time, but you can expect a smattering of sarcasm. Honestly, most people will dress in casual weekend attire, so dress how you feel comfortable and you’ll fit right in. I'll be wearing jeans (and a jacket, since it's Easter), if that helps.

Do you have anything for my kids, or will I be trying to shush/bribe them to behave for the service?

No bribery needed! We've got an AWESOME kids' environment called New Life Kids. It's for ages 6 weeks through 5th grade. You can learn more by clicking here. If it is your first Sunday, we encourage you to print out this registration form, fill it out, and bring it with you to save you some time on Sunday morning. For the sake of safety we have everyone fill out the registration the firs time, but you've already managed to get everyone there with minimal food spilled on their clothes and probably don't want to do paperwork with a kid in your arms, so just knock it out now and give yourself time to get some free coffee at the Welcome Table!

You're not going to make me stand up or raise my hand 'cause I'm there for the first time, are you?

Heck no. In fact, we've actually got a really nice gift for you at the Connect Table after the service to say "thank you" for joining us. Any other "what will it be like?" questions are probably answered here.

Should I bring anything?

Well, if you have a Bible, you can bring that, but if you don't have one, we'll be more than happy to give you one.

We're actually very pro-technology at our church, so if you have a smartphone you might want to download a free Bible right now by visiting bible.tnlclive.com on your phone. You'll actually be able to follow along and interact with the message by using the Live feature on the YouVersion free Bible app. Our Live event is already...well, live...so you can figure it out now and be an expert by Sunday.

Ok, I think that does it! Let me know if you have any other questions, and I'll see you Sunday!

Superstars, we are just a few days away from our Easter service. I'm going to ask TWO things from you:

1) INVITE ANY AND EVERYONE YOU CAN THINK OF! People are NOT offended when you invite them to an Easter service, so take advantage of it! How can they believe unless they hear?! Get five easy ways to pray and five easy ways to invite right here.

2) If you are not serving COME 10 MINUTES EARLY! Guests usually come early, and to create a great environment for them make 10:20 the new 10:30! Blame it on me if your spouse complains!

3) If you have friends with kids coming with you for the first time, help make their first-time checkin a breeze by have them print and fill out our Registration Form, and bring it with them. Boom! Checked in!

AND PRAY!!! I'm preaching the gospel, I'm asking for responses to salvation, I'm believing to see the kingdom expanded tomorrow. Will you join me?

This going to be a great Easter!!! Amen?!?

If you ever have questions you want answered, send them to info@trinitynewlife.com with Ask The Pastor in the subject line. Try and send them Sunday or Monday early, as I want to post this no later than Tuesday.

When we find success in our own lives, what can we do to reduce disappointment when/if we lose that success?

I think it's impossible to be absent of disappointment, and I don't know that we need to be totally absent of it to be pleasing to God. I think what's important to evaluate is how deep the disappointment goes into our souls. You lose your job, you lose a child, you lose a friend, heck, even if your team loses a championship there can and should be an appropriate level of disappointment.

But is it soul-crushing disappointment? Is it identity-shifting disappointment? Is it reality-altering disappointment? Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and once we are His we will never cease to be His, so if that level of shifting takes place in our soul in response to disappointment, it may work to reveal how off we are in either our understudying of Jesus or the depth of our belief in Him.

What are some things we can do to remove these false expectations?

Dive as deep into Jesus as we can through the word, through prayer, through music, through meditation, etc. Dive as deep into Jesus as we can.

How can we identify 'bad' teachers from the authentic and 'good' Spiritual Teachers?

The best thing we can do is what Paul told Timothy in 1 Timothy 4:16 "Keep a close watch on how you live and on your teaching." The best thing you can do is to know the truth, the best way to know the truth is to be intentional about developing our theology, or understanding of God. We are warned in Matthew 24:23-24, 2 Peter 3:3, and Jude 17-20 that there will be people who attempt to deceive us, so we must focus on the truth of Jesus and not the personality of a person.

Non-believers often have misconstrued stereotypes of Christians. What are the most common or untrue stereotypes? How can we approach and overcome them?

Hmm, this is a tough one, mainly because I'm not a non-believer!

Almost all stereotypes are based on a certain amount of truth, so what might be a better question is what stereotypes are assumed to be true for ALL Christians. All Republicans? Nope, not by a long shot. Counter this by being concerned with all humans, not just the ones in the womb. Them too, just not only them. All hypocrites? Not by a long shot. Yes, there are many who claim to be Christians but are so in word only, but many, MANY people are genuine in their faith, don't assume to be better than anyone else, and are trying to love and serve Jesus and their neighbors.

The best way to overcome them is to live genuine, grace-filled, humble, loving lives to any and every one. This book, unChristian, is a fuller explanation of this topic.

As Christians, what expectations can we have of Jesus?

All 200+ of these.

Ok, that's it for today! Part two coming tomorrow! Have more questions? Leave them in the comments and we'll try and get to them!

Newsflash: yesterday was April Fools' Day. Knowing that I have a SLIGHT bit of sarcasm running through me, I decided to tweet a few foolish thoughts. They seemed to be enjoyed by a few, so I've collected them here in chronological order. Yes, I am a sarcastic jerk.

Don't worry about going to church today, it's no different to Jesus that if you sleep in & golf #AprilFools

Hey, guess what? Your good works are enough to make you right with God! #AprilFools

Actually, we have more volunteers than we need, especially for the kids, so it doesn't matter if you serve or not #AprilFools

Honestly? We ARE only interested in your money! We don't cry out in prayer for your soul, family, or marriage. Cash only. #AprilFools

Not coming to church consistently & feeling like you "just don't know anyone here" have no connection at all #AprilFools

If you don't have it all figured out, you better not come to church, because we will judge you, because we have it all together #AprilFools

When I see you at church today and ask you how you are, and you say "fine" or "great!" I'll totally believe you #AprilFools

The music team said that showing up 10 min late and then not moving a muscle, including your mouth, really helps them out #AprilFools

The best thing u can do for Jesus is be single-minded about ur minor theological belief & look down on those who dont' share it #AprilFools

Non-Christians are really open to your condescending and superior Facebook updates. Do more of them! #AprilFools

Yes, of course, God would LOVE to make a deal with you so you can get away with sin, why didn't you ask sooner! #AprilFools

The most important thing is to get the right people in office. THAT will change culture, get people saved, and bring Jesus back #AprilFools

If you ever have questions you want answered, send them to info@trinitynewlife.com with Ask The Pastor in the subject line. Try and send them Sunday or Monday early, as I want to post this no later than Tuesday.

Does Rom. 12:1-2 mean that all worship is equal, as long as it is authentic?

I believe so. The hardest thing to judge is someone's heart, both for us, and at time, for them. Jesus, in his own words in John 4, says that God is looking for worshippers in "spirit and truth." If we're worshipping in truth (within the confines of orthodox belief) and in spirit (meaning it's not confined to a physical location) it is possible to do anything for the glory of God (1 Cor. 10:31).

How do you suggest we balance our own preferences and how we connect with God, and the need to accept aspects of a church/worship style that don't work best for us?

This is a question with no clean answer, but requires us to work in wisdom and discernment from Christ. To try and find a perfect church, one that lines up with every preference and personality trait you'd like it a futile search, one that can be very damaging. We can keep looking over and over, never find EXACTLY what we want (because it doesn't exist), and it keeps us out of community, it keeps us from committing, it keeps us from ever having to engage and commit to anything or anyone.

However, we don't have to go so far as attending a church that we hate, that we can't connect with, or that doesn't have any of the ministry opportunities that resonate with how God's gifted and created us. God has diversity in personalities, gifting, talents, and churches. There's nothing wrong with that; everyone can't be everything to everyone else. What we have to ask is not "Do I like everything that the do here?" but "Is God calling me to be a part of this body?" God fits people into the body (1 Cor. 12:12-27), and it's up to him to put us there. If we ask where we will be happiest and most comfortable, we may miss God. If we ask where God wants us, we will have the most amount of happiness, joy, and fulfillment.

Part of the message stressed doing things in our lives that benefit others. Many business decisions are made that may not be beneficial for the employees. Do such decisions go against God and worship?

On the surface, no.

The larger questions that must be asked are "Did ungodly decisions (stealing, lying, immorality) bring us to this decision? Was a decision to let someone go done with character, dignity, honor, respect? Were they treated well? Were they given opportunities to improve?"

Hiring and firing, business growth and downsizing can happen when people are honoring God and when they are ignoring him. However, the ability to treat people in a godly and honorable way is present in every situation. It might seem counter-intuitive, but there is a way to worship and glorify God when letting someone go.

What suggestions do you have to the congregation to help us get 'in the zone' for church?

Fill up during the week with Jesus, and the come overflowing on Sunday. If you've got kids, don't try and show up at 10:30, because you have kids you'll probably be late, and if you're gonna check them in that will take a few more minutes, and it might be 10:45 before you are able to think about what's going on. And if you're late every week, move your start time back, it's time to admit defeat on a 5 minute prep time to get out of the house. .

Honestly, the best thing to do is show up at 10:20. You'll get the kids checked in (check-in opens at 10:15), get your coffee, and be able to lock in when the music starts at 10:30. Can you imagine how hard it is for the Music Team to lead people when half of the people are moving around and not focused. Help them out and help yourself out. Try getting there early, trust me.

Turn off the angry talk radio and throw in some music instead. Read your Bible more than at red lights during the week. Try praying. Try something radical and pray out loud.

More than anything, come ready to give, sow, pour out, not to take. Determine to bless someone. Determine to make a real connection with someone. Make it about Jesus, not your looks, your appearance.

Make it all, every day, every moment, about Jesus.

If you ever have questions you want answered, send them to info@trinitynewlife.com with Ask The Pastor in the subject line. Try and send them Sunday or Monday early, as we will try to post this no later than Tuesday.

As we head into the final stretch of our Faith for Five initiative, we're going to take one day (the fifth!) to specifically focus our prayers on our Five, our Easter service, and for our church as a whole. Throughout Scripture we see fasting as a powerful spiritual discipline that grows us closer to God, fans into flames our passion for God, and strengthens our prayers to God (for more info on fasting, download our March fasting guide here).

Fasting usually involves abstaining from food. Some of you may be able to fast the whole day, but we're asking that EVERYONE take AT LEAST one meal and take the time you would have been eating to pray. Let's step out in faith and see Jesus transform hearts and lives!

BREAKFAST PRAYERS

Pray, by name, for all of your five.
Pray all of the prayers found on the Faith for Five Info Sheet.
Pray for the Five of everyone else in the church.
Pray for divine connections and open doors to extend invitations.
Pray for everyone to have the courage to invite people to church.
Pray for open hearts to receive those invitations.
Pray for God to meet each person as they invite, and each person as they're invited.

LUNCH PRAYER

Pray, by name, for all of your five.
Pray all of the prayers found on the Faith for Five Info Sheet.
Pray for the Five of everyone else in the church.
Pray for our Easter service, that every element would be done with excellence.
Pray that the presence of God would be tangible to everyone on Sunday morning.
Pray for the music team, for their rehearsals and songs. Pray they do more than just play, but lead us into God's presence.
Pray for the Connection Team, that they can meet and connect with all of our guests.
Pray for the NLK team, pray that just as much Jesus is in their rooms. Pray the gospel would go deep in the hearts of the kids. Pray the workers have grace to lead and speak the truth of Jesus.
Pray for the Welcome Team, to bring life and joy to everyone they greet.
Pray for the Media Team, that there are no devils in the sound equipment!
Pray for open hearts, for everyone, to see that there is salvation in no one but Jesus
Pray that revelation from the Holy Spirit and the grace to repent are present at the service

DINNER PRAYERS

Pray, by name, for all of your five.
Pray all of the prayers found on the Faith for Five Info Sheet.
Pray for the Five of everyone else in the church.
Pray for us to be a church that worships Jesus in every aspect of our lives.
Pray for us to be desperately seeking Jesus every day.
Pray for marriages to be strengthened. Pray for communication, grace, understanding, and romantic love to be in every marriage.
Pray for families to be brought closer by coming closer to Jesus themselves. Pray for love and understanding between kids and parents. Pray for salvation for each child in every house. Pray for a love of Jesus, not obedience to rules, is placed in the heart of every child.
Pray for healing of physical ailments. Pray that God would transform physical bodies by His power.

Ok, remember how for few weeks I did this Monday recap thing? Yeah, that didn't keep up, did it? So we looked back to see what would be a better approach, and since I seem to be able to type a novel in response to questions (which you know if you've ever emailed with a theological question), I'm going to instead respond to questions I'm sent about the sermon and or/service as a whole. If you ever have questions you want answered, send them to info@trinitynewlife.com with Ask The Pastor in the subject line. Try and send them Sunday or Monday early, as I want to post this no later than Tuesday.

In reference to helping with the church however we can, how can we know what God is calling us to help the church with?

Great question! Though God does give each one of us gifts and talents to serve Him and others, many times it can be frustrating or confusing. Two primary questions should be asked: What are you passionate about, and what are the greatest needs of the church?

Many times the passion/interest/desire that we have to serve in an area is an indication of where we'll have a gift or talent to serve. God doesn't want us to despise serving, so as we grow closer to Him and are transformed by Him, He aligns our desires up with His so we experience joy and happiness as a byproduct of serving Jesus.

It's also important to ask what the biggest needs are in church. It might seem more likely at a church of our size, but I've served on the staff of larger churches and the same can be said: passion and needs don't always line up, but some things still need to be done. People need to be welcomed, kids need to be cared for, chairs need to get put out and put away. Sometimes it's important to serve where it's most needed for a season, and not limit yourself to what you like or "feel called to." As I stated above, I don't believe God wants us constantly serving in frustration, but if our goal is to bless and honor Jesus and not just seek our personal fulfillment I think God really honors those who are willing to say "I'm not crazy about this, I don't know if I'm any good, but I want to be a blessing if it's needed." I also know that we, as the church leaders, don't want you to be in that place forever, and I don't believe God does, either. But I do believe He honors those willing to step into the temporary gap.

After serving for a period of time, you should evaluate where you seem to produce the most fruit. Where do you see the most kingdom-focused results? Where do you seem to receive the most compliments? What do you get asked to do because you've done it well in the past, not just where do you THINK you're doing well? I've found this to be a helpful filter only after serving in multiple areas for a decent (at least 4 months) period of time. You won't know what you're good at until you do it.

If God is able to do all things, when why does he choose to not do things at certain times?

Ephesians 2:20 "Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think." Now the answer: Yeah, I don't know.

One thing I've learned as a father is that I will allow a certain thing to happen (or not happen) to my daughter when it was within my ability to change and make things how she wants, or what she perceives to be easier, but in the end it would prove detrimental to her. In my opinion, we come to a frustration point with God because He's not acting like how we want Him to, though we don't have the knowledge, perspective, or understanding that He does about us, about the world, our life, or His will. We have to trust that God is perfect in working things out in His timing, not ours, because He understands and sees things that we can't, because he's omniscient and we're WELLLLLLL short of that.

What are the biggest needs for the church?

How much time do you have?

If we're a growing church (which we are) we'll always have a need for more in quite a few areas. For the purpose of this sermon, we talked specifically about human capital, so I'll focus on the areas where people can meet needs.

Practically, on a Sunday morning, our greatest need is for members of the Media Team. Some great leaders have moved from the Media Team to take roles in other areas, which has been a blessing to the church as a whole but a hit to the media team specifically. People willing to step up and serve there would be HUGE.

Additionally, we have a great privilege of ministering to lots of kids on Sunday mornings, and we'll never, NEVER, have too many workers for New Life Kids. Outside of that, a second person for our instruments (or an acoustic guitar player) would be huge for the Music Team so that we can rotate the team and be OK when someone's out-of-town or has to miss a Sunday.

When it comes to our non-Sunday needs, we need, and will always need, more New Life Group leaders. We can get to a place where we have too many people and not enough leaders, but I don't know a church that's ever had too many leaders and too few people to care for. Where there are leaders, there are people. This isn't a role you can step right into, since there is a large spiritual dimension to it, but if you're interested but perhaps not ready to lead, please let us know so we can help develop you! We're not expecting pre-made leaders, just people willing to learn and grow!

If you ever have questions you want answered, send them to info@trinitynewlife.com with Ask The Pastor in the subject line. Try and send them Sunday or Monday early, as we will try to post this no later than Tuesday.

ENGAGE YOUR FAITH

Easter is the perfect opportunity to invite friends and family who don’t know Jesus and/or are not part of a local church to join us at Trinity New Life.

We want to help you grow in your faith and see your friends and family come to know Jesus, so we’re challenging everyone to step out in faith to pray for and invite FIVE people to our Easter celebration on April 8th.

At church we've provided a card for you to write down the names of your FIVE so you have it all times and FIVE invitation cards. Below we have FIVE ways you can invite friends and FIVE scriptural prayers to pray for them. The only thing missing?

YOUR FAITH! Let’s add the final ingredient and see lives transformed!

FIVE WAYS TO INVITE

1. Call them and invite them.
2. Send them a text message reminder.
3. Send them a personal Facebook message.
4. Send them an email with a link to trinitynewlife.com/easter.
5. Get a chance to meet up with them and hand them an invite card.

FIVE PRAYERS

1. Jesus, you came to seek and save the lost. I pray you seek after and save these five people. (John 19:10)
2. Father, no one can come to you unless you draw them. I pray you draw these five people to you this Easter! (John 6:44)
3. Holy Spirit, convict them of their sin, of righteousness available in Christ, and of the coming judgment. (John 16:8)
4. Give them faith to repent and turn to God, so that their sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord. (Acts 3:19)
5. Save them by your grace through faith. Let them have no trust in their own works to save themselves, but your grace alone. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Hey everyone!

I know you're probably wrestling through some level of hunger pains right now (or Facebook withdraw, or whatever you're fasting) but I wanted to let you know that we're going to close the fast Friday night with a prayer meeting from 6-7 p.m. Now, I know most of you are trying to get the kids wrangled at that time, or maybe driving home from work, so we're going to help you out- the prayer meeting is via conference call!

This gives you a chance to participate while driving home, while at work, etc., because you can be on mute! When you're ready to pray, you can unmute and jump in. Don't know what to pray? We'll be praying through our corporate prayer points, which are listed below, so just grab one of the prayer points below and use it. It's not less holy; it's just fun to use list!

So if this is your 50th prayer meeting, or it's your first one and you're looking forward to no one looking at you while you pray, make the time to join us for 60, 45, 30, or even 15 minutes this Friday night. Talk to you then!

Call-in Info: Conference Dial-in Number: (570) 684-0064. Participant Access Code: 31410#

LOVE JESUS

1. For every person in our church to have a passionate, white-hot love for Jesus Christ.
2. For everyone to seek to grow in holiness and intimacy with God every day of their lives, allowing him to expose false idols in our lives.
3. For false idols to be exposed in the lives of those who don’t know Jesus, specifically the idols of trusting in moral goodness, security of money, and pride in personal abilities.
4. Pray for the salvation of everyone in our area! Pray for their lives to be rescued and restored by Jesus!
5. Pray for our kids to love Jesus from an early age, that we would see salvations in New Life Kids with regularity!
6. Pray for middle and high school students to give their lives to Jesus and withstand the pressures and temptations of their environment.

LOVE PEOPLE

1. Pray we would be a spiritual family, not just an organization.
2. Pray we would love and care for each other like a real family, bearing one another’s burdens in love.
3. Pray for the strengthening of families and marriages in our community.
4. Pray against divorce in our community and our church. Pray for broken marriages to be reconciled by the power of the Gospel.
5. Pray our New Life Groups will see great community and discipleship!

SERVE THE CITY

1. Pray for the staff and students of our host school, Trinity Elementary. Pray for all of our schools in the area!
2. Pray for the poor, widow, and orphan to be loved and comforted.
3. Pray for the growth and success of our plants in Boston, Miami, and Lexington.
4. Pray for the churches in our local area, that we would all see souls saved!

Good Tuesday, everyone!

In cased your missed the weekend, or just wanted to know where to find them, here's the set list from last Sunday at Trinity New Life Church:

We post this every week because we don't want you to just listen to songs on Sunday, we want you to be worshipping in the car, on the treadmill, at home...where ever! Grab them for a buck and be so full of worship by Sunday that you're lifting the level of faith in the room for everyone else. So spend the three bucks and get your worship on!

No, we didn't continue our two-week streak of breaking attendance records, but this was still a big day for Trinity New Life. God's moving, and we're blessed to be a part of it. So many amazing new people to meet each week!

Favorite thing I heard: "Um, who are all of these people?!" Exactly!

As great as the whole service was today, this weekend at the marriage conference was even more killer. Pastor Russ and Debbie Austin were AMAZING. Pastor Russ is my pastor, and I couldn't have been more blessed by the two of them. Must find way to get them here on a Sunday!

Shook hands with a guy and then slapped his arm, and nearly broke it on his bicep. Dang. First member of the TNLC Secuuurity team?

Sickness has been hanging around our house for waaaaaay too long. Please pray for healing for our family.

LeBoot will hopefully come off this week. Then it's back to a bike and a pool, but no running for a few months. No. Good.

SUUUUUUUUPER excited for our next series, This Is How We Change The World, as we celebrate the anniversary of Trinity New Life Church. Something BIG in my spirit for this series, don't miss it!

Baptisms this week! Can't wait for these folks to share their stories of life change!

It's two weeks out, but do any and everything to be at our March 11 service. I will be sharing about where we've been, where are are, and where we're going. So excited. Pumped. Hyped.

Finishing off Starting Point Group tonight, by FAR the most inquisitive SPG ever. It's the most exciting thing to see people who are excited about Jesus.

Something big is staring...something big is coming...the best way to be ready to is to have more Jesus NOW. Get you some!

Ok, that's it for today. Tell me what you thought of yesterday!

What?! Two posts in one week from your ol' Pastor?! 'Tis true!

On Thursdays the plan is to post a resource for you to use to build your faith in Jesus. Sometimes a podcast, sometimes a book, a movie, a shadow puppet manual, whatever's going to get more Jesus in you. So let's go!

First up is a book I'd highly recommend called EntreLeadership by Dave Ramsey. Yes, I know, that's a weird word, but Dave's goal (we're on a first-name basis, can't you tell?) is to combine and highlights the best qualities of both an entrepreneur and a leader, the type of people he looks to fill his organization with.

While Dave Ramsey is traditionally known for his financial resources, tv show and radio show, he's also been teaching leadership in business and conference circles for quite a while, and obvious why when you read the book.

A mix of leadership philosophy with a generous heaping of practical wisdom, the book itself is just like the idea of an EntreLeader itself: attempting to pull together two ideas and present the best of them for maximum effectiveness, and I believe he achieves this in his first leadership book. While some of the practicals are ahead of my leadership situation, they were fantastic primers for when we're in a situation of not just managing great volunteers but managing great staff members.

I'd highly recommend this for those both inside and outside of ministry, especially anyone leading a small business.

If you'd like to hear more about EntreLeadership, you can find out more on Dave's website, download the bi-weekly podcast here, and even purchase the book on Amazon.com.

Happy leading!
