READ

Genesis 3:6-7

6 The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. 7 At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.

REFLECT

In yesterday’s devotion, we read about being made in the image of God.  What went wrong?  Eve thought having the knowledge of both good and evil seemed harmless.  Sin comes from our decisions, our choices, and our desires to be the ones deciding good and evil.  Our sins do not always appear ugly to us.  Thankfully, a guilty conscience is a warning signal God placed inside of us that goes off when we have done wrong.  This can help us be more aware of our sins and serve to prompt us to ask God for forgiveness and help correct wrongdoing.

APPLY

Q: What did Eve want (see verse 6)?

Q: Have you made choices because you were convinced those things were good, only to find out they weren’t good at all?  How can you avoid falling into this trap?

Q: Do you know anyone struggling with sin?  How can you mentor them and help get them on the right track?

PRAY

"May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven."

Help me follow you and obey You, Lord.  Make spending time in Your word and with You a priority in my life.  Daily I want to confess my sins, ask for forgiveness and learn how to live differently.  I thirst for Your wisdom and guidance in my life.  Thank you for always being there for me God!
