READ
JAMES 1:22-25
But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.
JOHN 14:23
Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.

REFLECT
Imagine you had a friend who would spend most of his money on acquiring new mirrors. Every weekend he’d buy a new one and soon they were up all over his house. Yet every time he went out he looked disheveled and dirty like he got dressed in complete darkness. He had leftovers from breakfast all over his face, his shirt was inside out, his shoes were on the wrong feet, and each hair was just up there doing its own thing, living its best life. Can you think of anything more useless for this person to own than a zillion mirrors? This is James’s point. If you’re going to read the bible and then not allow it to change your life. You have a super pointless hobby...Why not just cut out the middle man, follow in your hairs footsteps, and go your own way? But, if you want to really live a life of true, satisfying success, why not try and apply what God says about the life he created, and see how things go? Why not let our love for God motivate our obedience to him? That’s what God says a truly successful life looks like.
APPLY
Q: What does Jesus say is one of the defining characteristics of someone who loves God?
Q: Are you asking God daily what in your life doesn’t line up with his word and seeking his power and grace to transform those areas? What might your life look like if this became a routine?
Q: The bible says that the greatest step of obedience and one of the ways that the world will know we are followers of Jesus is by how we love others. Ask God to show you one opportunity to selflessly love someone else today.

PRAY
"May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven."
God, help to adjust my life to match your word. Help me to usher in the kingdom of God here on earth by walking in obedience to how you have told me to live. Empower me with your grace to be able to love others selflessly and sacrificially, the same way you have loved me. Amen.
