LUKE 9:23-24

"Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me. 24 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.”

2 CORINTHIANS 12:9

“Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses so that the power of Christ can work through me.”

REFLECT

Some days it’s not easy to give our desires to Jesus, and some days it’s frustrating when you find you are struggling with the same thing again and again. But the struggle you consider a thorn in your side- could it perhaps be the very thing God uses to draw you near to him? Too often we find ourselves burdened by the false expectation that once we say yes to God our wrestlings should subside, even cease. But what does Jesus say? To give up our own way- daily. If we should encounter darkness on our path, whether from within or without, it is no cause for surprise. For to struggle isn’t to fail, to wrestle the shadow is not cause for discouragement, but cause for rejoicing. Because for every weakness in us, God may be glorified and we may know Him more.

PRAY

"Give us today our daily bread."

God thank you for providing for me. I choose to put my trust in you today, to trust that you do care about my tangible needs and that you know what is best for me. With that posture, I ask for you to provide what I need today. And even when I can’t see how things will work out, I choose faith, I choose to believe that you are the living God and that you are good to us. Thank you for your constant and deep love for us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
