READ

PSALM 127

Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good.

2 It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones.

3 Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.

4 Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands. 5 How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them! He will not be put to shame when he confronts his accusers at the city gates.

REFLECT

The book of Psalms collection of 150 poems that express a wide variety of emotions, including: love and adoration toward God, sorrow over sin, dependence on God in desperate circumstances, the battle of fear and trust, walking with God even when the way seems dark, thankfulness for God’s care, devotion to the word of the God, and confidence in the eventual triumph of God’s purposes for the world. These themes and ideas are all things to think through as we read each chapter.

PRAY

"Forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us."

Today, Father, come and remind us of the truth in your scriptures and search us for ways to become more like you. Forgive us for the ways that we sin against you and help us find the ways that we need to forgive others.
