PSALM 104:33-35

I will sing to the Lord as long as I live. I will praise my God to my last breath! 34 May all my thoughts be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the Lord. 35 Let all sinners vanish from the face of the earth; Let the wicked disappear forever. Let all that I am praise the Lord.

COLOSSIANS 1:15-20

Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, 16 for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see— such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. 17 He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together. 18 Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything. 19 For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, 20 and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.

REFLECT

Had God left us completely to our own devices after we sinned against him and followed our own way, he would have been entirely in the right. God was under no obligation to rescue us from ourselves. And yet, in love, he pursued us, he made a plan to redeem us, he made the first move and came to rescue us. He’s not great only because he has incredible qualities and characteristics. He is also great because among those qualities and characteristics is perfect mercy and grace, which he showed us when he sent his son to die for us. Jesus had a choice, die a death he didn’t deserve or let the ones who did deserve it, die the death they earned. He chose to sacrifice himself, receive what he didn’t deserve, and do away with our debt so that we could have a relationship with God again. If this isn’t a picture of God’s greatness, then I’m not sure I could craft one that is. Let’s praise God for saving us today!

PRAY

"And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one."

Father God, because you have saved me, I will live my life in holiness, pursuing righteousness. Help me to resist the fiery arrows of the enemy and submit to your will in every area of my life. Let my choices be guided by your word and my actions be marked by the life of your Son. In Jesus’ name, amen.
