READ

JOSHUA 1:8 9 (NIV)

“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

PSALM 119:26-30

"26 I told you my plans, and you answered.
Now teach me your decrees.
27 Help me understand the meaning of your commandments,
and I will meditate on your wonderful deeds.
28 I weep with sorrow;
encourage me by your word.
29 Keep me from lying to myself;
give me the privilege of knowing your instructions.
30 I have chosen to be faithful;
I have determined to live by your regulations.”

REFLECT

How do you live in the joy of the Lord? How do you reap the benefits of the Word? You first must learn it. Because of our sin nature, we do not innately move towards what God calls good, instead, we are led by our own desires and feelings. We must first be taught the Word of God, we must be instructed in His ways, and we must learn a new way of living. Thankfully, we are not expected to accomplish this on our own. God was the one who brought us back to life through his son, Jesus, and in doing so placed his Holy Spirit in us to teach and guide us in all things pertaining to life and godliness. If we are faithful to meditate on his Word, he is faithful to show us the way and to strengthen us to walk in it.

APPLY

Q: Read through the verses listed from Psalm 119- what actions are God responsible for and what actions does the Psalmist take responsibility for?

Q: If we are to model what the scripture says, we are to **ask** God for the things the Psalmist does, and devote ourselves to **learning** God’s Word.

Q: Scripture memory is a great way to put this into action- ask a friend to memorize a verse with you.

PRAY

"May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven."

Jesus, teach me your Word, reveal to me the beauty of your ways, and strengthen my heart to walk in them and stay true to your call. Let your will be done in my life, and your kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven.
