READ

JAMES 1:22-25 (NIV)

"22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.”

REFLECT

Learning is the first part to living in the Word, but putting it into practice? That’s the crux. When you move from knowing to doing, you’ll start to see results. Author John Bevere writes "Spiritual growth is neither a function of time nor learning. It is a function of obedience.” Knowledge is the starting point, but obedience is the key. When we meditate on God’s Word and hide it in our hearts, we remember its instruction and are able to do what it says- let it be our guide for life.

APPLY

Q: Read verse 25- what are the three things this verse says to do in order to walk in blessing?

Q: What does it look like for you to 1) look intently into the law, 2) continue in it, and 3) not forget it, but do it?

Q: How does connecting our knowledge to practice help witness to Jesus instead of feeding the view some have of Christians being hypocrites?

SING

PRAY

"Give us today our daily bread."

Remind me Lord that you provide all I need. That I must feed my spirit just as I must feed my body. Teach me to love what is good, that I would crave more of You and your presence in my life. Amen.
