READ

PSALM 119:33-37

33 "Teach me your decrees, O LORD;
I will keep them to the end.

34 Give me understanding and I will obey your instructions;
I will put them into practice with all my heart.

35 Make me walk along the path of your commands,
for that is where my happiness is found.

36 Give me an eagerness for your laws
rather than a love for money!

37 Turn my eyes from worthless things,
and give me life through your word.”

REFLECT

Can you hear the tenacity in the Psalmist’s voice? The grip that he has on God, clinging to the rope of salvation, determined not to lose the way.? Do you feel the rhythm in the words, in the couplets? Ask and respond. Ask and response. “God, do _____ and I will _____”. What does it look like for us to take hold of the Word of God in this way? When we do, a beautiful life opens before us, one written by God, one marked by transformation and purity.

Jesus, help me to hold fast to You. To hold fast to goodness, grace, and mercy, and to release anger, bitterness, and pain. Fill me to overflow with thankfulness and to experience your freedom. Thank you for your faithfulness to me, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
