READ

MATTHEW 6:19-21

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

REFLECT

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” This Scripture may be haunting or liberating depending on what your heart treasures the most. It is why Jesus warns about the thorns of this life choking out the fruit of God in your heart. It’s hard to love God first when comfort, riches, and other desires come before Him. What we worry about, we focus on. What we focus on, we commit our time to. What we commit ourselves to, we fear and adore. What we fear and adore, we ultimately love and worship the most.

APPLY

Q: What does “treasures in heaven” look like according to this and other Scriptures?

Q: Where is your heart? What is it wholly devoted to right now?

Q: How does loving God first transform the way you love others?

"Give us today our daily bread."

Heavenly Father, you are all I need. Your words feed my soul and your Holy Spirit sustains me. I pray for a heart fully devoted to you. I love you, Lord! Amen.
