MATHEW 22:34-40
Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

REFLECT
“All of the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” This means all of the sweeping histories of Israel and the words of the Old Testament depend on the fulfillment of these two commands. But humanity has dropped the ball on these commands over and over. Praise God that He is both just and the one who justifies us through His Son and gives us new life to love as He loves.
APPLY
Q: Why do you think Jesus sums up the entirety of the Scriptures with these two commands?
Q: Reflect on the parts of your heart you need to surrender to God still. Write down a renewed commitment and prayerfully seek God as you reflect on these over the coming weeks.
Q: Reflect on who needs your love and mercy the most right now. Pray for them and the renewal of the relationship by the power of God’s Spirit.

"And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one."
Father, I love you. You have forgiven me so much. Guide me in the paths of righteousness for your Name’s sake. Your rod and your staff comfort me. Help me to delight in your Word and goodness today and to stay far from darkness and sin.
