READ

ROMANS 8:1-4

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

REFLECT

The weight of sin is heavy. Shame, when magnified or misplaced, elongates the feelings of guilt. But Christ has — once and for all — carried the burden of sin for all of humanity. “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” This means spiritual guilt is resolved through Christ and shame can be let go.

APPLY

Q: When Christ came, what did He accomplish according to this passage?

Q: How are you invested in and focused on living according to the Spirit?

Q: Who needs to hear this message of forgiveness in Christ right now?

PRAY

"Forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us."

Lord, thank you for bringing forgiveness through your Son, Jesus! Help me to be merciful and kind like you have been to me. You have removed condemnation and guilt through your Son. Help me to be soft-hearted towards others like you have been to me. Amen.
