READ

Romans 8:31-37

"31 What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? 32 Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? 33 Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. 34 Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.

35 Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? 36 (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) 37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.”

REFLECT

Confidence can be a very good thing.  It can also be a millstone around one’s neck.  Being confident simply is not enough.  The crucial issue in WHOM, or in WHAT, is our confidence.  Well-founded confidence is proper and good.  We have every reason to be confident, not in ourselves, but in our salvation and in the sovereign God who is accomplishing it.  Because of this, we can have hope and confidence in the midst of this fallen world.

APPLY

Q: How much did God love us?  (see verse 32)

Q: What provides us victory in this life?  How should we live knowing that we have already won?

Q: Pray for someone you know who is feeling like they are separated from God.  How can you remind them that the battle is already won?

SING

PRAY

"And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one."

God help me to remember that you have already won.  Ingrain in me the confidence and assurance that I have through Your Son Jesus.  Thank you for loving me and teaching me to obey your commands.  You are so generous and loving and I am grateful to be called your child.
