READ

ROMANS 12:9-16

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud but be willing to associate with people of low positions. Do not be conceited.

REFLECT

Sincerity, faithfulness, and devotion to love; are just a few of the foundational values that make up the body of Christ. Our culture encourages division when differences arise and often shuns those who are considered lowly, other, or oppressed. But as Christians, we are called to a much higher plane of love that transcends such distinctions. Hospitality, blessing, rejoicing, and mourning - these are the hallmarks of our bond with each other, a bond that is unbreakable and which binds us together in Christ.

APPLY

Q: What can you learn from this passage about the consistency of spiritual family?
Q: How can you apply this passage to the way you love and serve God’s people?
Q: This passage also challenges you to love others who may not be part of God’s family yet. Who do you need to forgive, love, and serve today?

PRAY

"Forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us."

Father, forgive me for my hardness of heart and for holding anger, division, or any bitterness towards others. Lord, help me to forgive just as Christ has forgiven me. Amen.
