READ
Matthew 4:18-22
18 One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. 19 Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” 20 And they left their nets at once and followed him.
21 A little farther up the shore he saw two other brothers, James and John, sitting in a boat with their father, Zebedee, repairing their nets. And he called them to come, too. 22 They immediately followed him, leaving the boat and their father behind.
REFLECT
Jesus called his disciples to leave their productive trade to be productive spiritually and fish for men. They didn’t makeup excuses about why they couldn’t follow Him. The disciples left immediately to follow Him. We all can be “fishers of men” and practice Christ’s teachings and share the Good News with others. Doing this will draw those around us to Christ just like a fisherman pulls fish into a boat with nets.
APPLY
Q: What did Jesus tell Peter and Andrew He would show them?
Q: Has Jesus called you to follow Him? Are you fishing for people?
Q: How can you share with others what you have left behind and gained because of it to follow Jesus?
SING
“Yes I Will” by Vertical Worship
PRAY
"Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy."
Father God, you are holy and worthy of all praise! Teach me how to fish for men and to follow you every day of my life. I don’t want to make any excuses. Instead, I want to trust and obey your promises. Thank you for showing me the road to what really matters most.
