John 15:16-19

16 ”You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name. 17 This is my command: Love each other. 18 If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first. 19 The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you.”

REFLECT

Jesus made the first choice which was to love us and die for us.  He now invites us to live with Him forever.  Now it’s our choice to either accept or reject His offer.  Once we have accepted His offer, we are to go and produce lasting fruit by loving each other.  The world teaches different values.  But because we are chosen by God, we are not part of this world.  Our job is to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus and do what He commands.

APPLY

Q: What did God appoint us to do?  Are you doing it?

Q: How can you love others that are not easy to love?

Q: What would it look like to be “not part of this world”?  How could you live that out for others to see?

PRAY

"Give us today our daily bread."

Jesus, you always give me what I need for each day.  Thank you for never leaving me and for guiding me in this world.  Remind me that I am chosen and that my purpose is to go and produce lasting fruit for your kingdom.  I don’t want to desire worldly things.  Instead, I want to focus on the heavenly things above.  Thank you for choosing me!
