GENESIS 3:23-24
23 So the Lord God banished them from the Garden of Eden, and he sent Adam out to cultivate the ground from which he had been made. 24 After sending them out, the Lord God stationed mighty cherubim to the east of the Garden of Eden. And he placed a flaming sword that flashed back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.
REFLECT
Genesis 3:23-24 describes the consequence of Adam and Eve's disobedience to God's command in the Garden of Eden. It reminds us of the tragic consequences of sin and the need for a savior.
What were the steps in the breaking of Adam and Eve’s relationship with God?
1. They put themselves and their will before God.
2. They were ashamed of their behavior and hid from God; and
3. They made excuses and justifications for their sinful behavior.
To enter into a relationship with God, those actions must be reversed:
1. We must not make excuses for our sinful behavior.
2. We need to confess our sins to God and not hide from Him; and
3. We must place God’s will ahead of our own desires and declare him as Lord.
APPLY
Q: We are reminded by this passage that sin separates us from God and that our only hope of salvation is through faith in Jesus. How has sin separated you from Christ this week?
Q: What sins do you need to confess and repent of?
Q: How can you be vulnerable with others as you share your testimony? What impact did sin have on your old life and how were you transformed by the Gospel?
SING
Heaven Fall by The Belonging Co.
PRAY
"May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven."
Father God, we are thankful you offer us glimpses of Heaven on this side of eternity. Help us to recognize and repent of our sins to keep our relationship with you close. Make our earthly will align with your good and perfect will.
