EXODUS 26:31-33
31“For the inside of the Tabernacle, make a special curtain of finely woven linen. Decorate it with blue, purple, and scarlet thread and with skillfully embroidered cherubim. 32 Hang this curtain on gold hooks attached to four posts of acacia wood. Overlay the posts with gold, and set them in four silver bases. 33 Hang the inner curtain from clasps, and put the Ark of the Covenant in the room behind it. This curtain will separate the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place.
REFLECT
In Exodus 26, God instructs Moses to create a veil to separate the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place in the Tabernacle. The veil was to be made of fine linen and embroidered with cherubim, serving as a barrier between the presence of God and the people.
The veil is a powerful symbol of the separation between a holy God and sinful humanity. It reminds us of the chasm that exists between God and mankind as a result of sin. The veil serves as a reminder that we cannot approach God on our own because of our sinfulness. It was only the high priest who could enter the Most Holy Place and only once a year on the Day of Atonement.
However, when Jesus died on the cross, the veil in the temple was torn in two, symbolizing that the separation between God and man was removed through the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. He became the high priest who could enter into the presence of God on our behalf, and through His sacrifice, we can now approach God with confidence.
APPLY
Q: How do the reality of sin and the need for a mediator impact your understanding of the holiness of God?
Q: In what ways can you pursue holiness in your life, and how can you live in a way that honors God's holiness?
Q: How can you explain the need for Jesus as a mediator to approach God in a way that is clear and impactful?

PRAY
"Give us today our daily bread."
God, we praise You that You meet our every need. We thank you that we no longer need a mediator or high priest to approach you, but we can boldly come to you through our faith in Jesus. Help us to live holy lives that honor you.
