READ
Genesis 1:26-27
26 Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.” 27 So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
REFLECT
God created many species of living things, each having a purpose, but only humans did He make in His image, therefore placing within us immense value and divine purpose. The word “image” here can be translated as a “representative figure”, so when God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us”, He was saying that mankind was made by the Triune God to resemble Him, to reflect God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. With that, mankind was also created with the will to choose. Our choices either reflect the character of God or reflects a misalignment with our divine purpose. The truth is, we are all born misaligned because of our sinful nature. (Romans 3:23) More about how that came to be in tomorrow’s devotion.
APPLY
Q: How does it change your thinking to know God made you reflect Him?
Q: What is your most difficult tug of war when it comes to being misaligned as an image bearer of God?
Q: As a result of this week’s message, what will you do differently in your home, at your workplace, or with your friends?
SING
"So Will I" (100 Billion X)
PRAY
"Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy."
Lord, I present myself to you as a living sacrifice. Transform my thoughts and renew my mind with the truth of your word so that my ways are conformed to your ways.
