Being born again is not the arrival of being connected to God. It is the beginning of a beautiful journey with God. He wants to guide you along His path. This starts with listening to Him through His written words. When you seek the Lord with all your heart, He will meet you right where you are. Your faith will grow more and more as you train yourself daily to be godly. But the real-life change happens when you experience God by applying His truth to your everyday life and circumstances. Here is a simple guide to reading and experiencing God’s word:
1. Choose a reading plan or a book of the Bible to read. (A chapter a day is a good guide)
2. Using a journal, write down the scripture reference. It can be a section of scripture or one verse out of your reading that stood out to you.
3. Ask yourself, “What is the scripture saying? Is there an encouragement? A revelation? A warning? An instruction? An example to follow? Write a brief observation of the scripture.
4. Next, ask yourself, “What is God saying to me personally in this passage?” Did a person, circumstance, attitude, challenge, etc. come to mind? How does the scripture apply to you? What will you do with it? Again, briefly write it out.
5. Pray over what God is speaking to you.
Doing this creates a simple, yet life-changing discipline of connecting to God and making His way a part of your daily life.
