1 CORINTHIANS 6:12
12 You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything.
REFLECT
In the apostle Paul's letter to the Corinthians, he addresses the topic of freedom in Christ. He acknowledges that as believers, we have the freedom to make choices, but not everything we can do is beneficial or edifying. It is a reminder that our freedom should be guided by wisdom and the desire to honor God in all aspects of our lives.
As followers of Christ, we are called to live in a way that glorifies God. Our freedom in Christ does not give us license to indulge in anything that may hinder our spiritual growth or harm our witness to others. We must recognize that we have been set free from the bondage of sin and worldly desires, and we are now called to live in the freedom found in Christ alone.
APPLY
Q: What does it mean to have the right to do anything but not everything being beneficial? Consider the choices you make on a daily basis. Are they beneficial to your spiritual growth, relationships, and overall well-being?
Q: Have you allowed yourself to be mastered by anything that hinders your relationship with God?
Q: How can you help others discern between exercising their freedom and falling into the trap of indulgence? How can you encourage them to seek the wisdom and guidance of the Holy Spirit as they navigate the choices and decisions in their life?

Jesus Over Everything by Andrew Holt
PRAY
Heavenly Father, I thank you for the freedom I have in Christ. Please help me to use this freedom wisely, understanding that not everything is beneficial or pleasing to you. Show me areas of my life where I have allowed myself to be mastered by things that hinder my relationship with you. Grant me discernment, Lord, to distinguish between exercising my freedom and falling into the trap of indulgence. May my choices always reflect my sincere desire to honor and glorify your holy name. Amen.
