READ

Acts 8:1-3

1 Saul was one of the witnesses, and he agreed completely with the killing of Stephen.

Persecution Scatters the Believers

A great wave of persecution began that day, sweeping over the church in Jerusalem; and all the believers except the apostles were scattered through the regions of Judea and Samaria. 2 (Some devout men came and buried Stephen with great mourning.) 3 But Saul was going everywhere to destroy the church. He went from house to house, dragging out both men and women to throw them into prison.

REFLECT

In this passage, we meet Saul who would soon become Paul.  Sometimes we have to be shattered to scatter.  The persecution actually helped spread the Good News.  Sometimes we have to become uncomfortable before we will move or do something different.  When you are feeling uncomfortable or suffering, stop and take the time to ask God if He is preparing you for a special task.

APPLY

Q: What was the result of the persecution that day?
Q: Are you experiencing any discomfort, persecution, or suffering in your life right now?  Are you asking God to reveal his purpose for your current situation?
Q: How can you use this situation in the bible to encourage others around you who are suffering?

PRAY

"Give us today our daily bread."

God, thank you for giving me what I need each day.  Help me come to you when I am suffering.  Give me wisdom and patience to seek Your purpose for my life.  Thank you for being a Way Maker and Miracle Worker and for calling me Yours!  I love You, Lord!
