READ

GALATIANS 2:19-21

“For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God.   20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.  The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.   21 I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”

REFLECT

Paul had all the religious pedigree you could achieve. He was a respected religious leader and seemingly blameless through the Law of Moses. Yet Paul proclaims he’s been crucified with Jesus. The old life gone, the new had come. Paul wants his audience — he wants you to know — that no amount of self-goodness, religious pedigree, or mountains of good works can reconcile you back to God. It’s only by Jesus.

APPLY

Q: What does Paul mean by “if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”?

Q: Do you live now by faith in the Son of God? Or are you gripping onto faith in something or someone else?

Q: Christ commanded His followers to bring the Gospel to all the nations. How does this command and the reality of Jesus living in you encourage you to share the Gospel?

PRAY

"Forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us."

Father, before you I was dead in my sins. Thank you for mercy and redemption through your Son! Forgive me for trying to live in my strength rather than in complete faith in Jesus. I love you. Amen.
