Genesis 2:23-24

23 The man said,
“This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.”
24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

Ephesians 5:31-32
31 As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife,
and the two are united into one.” 32 This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ
and the church are one.

1 Corinthians 13:13
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

REFLECT

Marriage is… A Holy Testimony to God’s love towards His creation.

“The Bible is an incredible book.  It has the answers to every question.”  Someone once told me this a long time ago and I have found it to be true.  Need a recipe for bread?  Read 1 Kings 17:7-16.  Architectural lesson in home building?  The parable of the house built on the rock says a lot about that.  What the person who told me the Bible has all the answers didn’t emphasize that sometimes you have to dig to find them.  The Bible is the definitive manual on love.

God created Adam and Eve to worship Him and be loved by Him.  His creation was part of a grand design to bring God glory and bring God companionship.  But sin entered the world.

The word “sin” actually comes from an archery term roughly meaning “missing the mark”.   Adam and Eve’s story is one of innocence, failing, redemption, and enduring love.  These are also the prime ingredients for a successful marriage.

Because of sin, Adam and Eve had lost the Garden of Eden and a picture-perfect life.  Their innocence was lost and life was about to get really, really hard.  But they stuck together.  Why?  The answer is simple… Love for each other and a promise from God that instilled hope for redemption.  While Adam and Eve missed the mark in fulfilling God’s original design for His creation, they set the model to reflect His original design for a relationship with Him.  Faith, hope, and love.
