READ

2 Timothy 1:5-7

"5 I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you. 6 This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”

REFLECT

Lois and Eunice, Timothy’s grandmother and mother, passed down a strong faith to Timothy.  Our families and friends are fertile fields to plant seeds of the Good News.  We have an opportunity to show others around us the spirit of God working through us sharing Christ’s love, helpfulness, and joy.  Paul mentions three characteristics of an effective Christian leader: power, love, and self-discipline.  Follow the Holy Spirit’s leading each day so that your life will more fully exhibit these characteristics.

APPLY

Q: What kind of a spirit did God give us?  (see verse 7)

Q: Are you using the spiritual gifts God gave you to advance God’s kingdom here on earth?

Q: How can this help them disciple others, serve others, or share the Gospel with others?

PRAY

"Forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us."

Heavenly Father, I want more of Your spirit. Fill me with Your power, love, and self-discipline, and help me be a role model for those around me.  I want to take advantage of any opportunity I have to share the Good News.  Thank you for loving me, God!
