READ

MATTHEW 6:19-21 NLT
19 “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. 21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.

LUKE 16:10-13 NLT
10 “If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities. 11And if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven? 12 And if you are not faithful with other people’s things, why should you be trusted with things of your own? 13 “No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money.”

REFLECT

Leviticus 27:30 says “One-tenth of the produce of the land, whether grain from the fields or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord and must be set apart to him as holy.” This verse has often been interpreted that God requires a tithe of 10% of your financial income. But this is not the whole story. God blesses us with abundance because we are His people not because He is expecting payback. We are called to honor Him with our finances. How can you do this?  Use your finances to benefit others. You honor God when you think of others; and when you bless others.

APPLY

Q: Why does Luke say “You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money?”

Q: What is your treasure? Does it help you serve God?

Q: Does what you treasure model faith and obedience to God?

PRAY

"May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven."

Father God, my life belongs to you. Holy Spirit shows me how to use my finances to fulfill the Father’s will for me. I pray for the grace to live out your will in my life.
