Exodus 26:31-34
“Make a curtain of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen, with cherubim woven into it by a skilled worker. 32 Hang it with gold hooks on four posts of acacia wood overlaid with gold and standing on four silver bases. 33 Hang the curtain from the clasps and place the ark of the covenant law behind the curtain. The curtain will separate the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place. 34 Put the atonement cover on the ark of the covenant law in the Most Holy Place.”

Matthew 27:51-54
At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split 52 and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53 They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection went into the holy city and appeared to many people. 54 When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”

REFLECT

Kings separate themselves in fortified castles and leaders behind tall fences and guards, but God, in His own design, showed the people of Israel how to come into His holy presence. Yet a curtain separated the rest of the tabernacle from the Most Holy Place, where God’s glory dwelt above the ark of the Covenant. One time per year, on the Day of Atonement, the High Priest would enter into the Most Holy Place through this heavy curtain. This background gives striking meaning to this curtain’s tearing when Jesus dies on the cross.
