PSALM 51:1, 10, 14-17

1 Have mercy on me, O God,

because of your unfailing love.

Because of your great compassion,

blot out the stain of my sins.

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God.

Renew a loyal spirit within me.

14 Forgive me for shedding blood, O God who saves;

then I will joyfully sing of your forgiveness.

15 Unseal my lips, O Lord,

that my mouth may praise you.

16 You do not desire a sacrifice, or I would offer one.

You do not want a burnt offering.

17 The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit.

You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.

REFLECT

Satan wants you to think that your sin disqualifies you from being used by God. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Often, the places you have been and experienced the most forgiveness will become the megaphone used to share the faithfulness of God through your life. No one is ever too far gone for God! God can use the ugliest places you have been for His utmost glory!

David’s story ended well. He shows us in this Psalm why he was called a man after God’s own heart. He failed greatly. But when he got back up God used him in extraordinary ways. In fact, he is listed in the lineage of Christ. He was part of that line that would be used to bring our Messiah. The Savior of the world chose a broken man to be part of History. He chose you too! History lives on through you and you can help others see Him when you choose to let His light shine through the cracks in your life.

APPLY

Q: What is a time God has used your story to share His glory?

Q: How can you change the way you see your past mistakes and let them be used to shine the light of Jesus?

Q: When someone operates from their brokenness how can you share the hope of the Healer with them?

SING

PRAY

"And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one."

Lord, when I’m tempted to hide in the shadow of my past or wallow in my mistakes, please remind me that I’m not the places I have been. I have been made new. I am Your child and in You, I am qualified to do great Kingdom works!
