READ

1 Peter 3:18-22
18 Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit.
19 So he went and preached to the spirits in prison— 20 those who disobeyed God long ago when God waited patiently while Noah was building his boat. Only eight people were saved from drowning in that terrible flood. 21 And that water is a picture of baptism, which now saves you, not by removing dirt from your body, but as a response to God from a clean conscience. It is effective because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
22 Now Christ has gone to heaven. He is seated in the place of honor next to God, and all the angels and authorities and powers accept his authority.

REFLECT

God speaks! God triumphs! God saves!  When we get baptized, we identify with Jesus, who separates us from the lost and gives us a new life!  The baptism itself doesn’t save us, it is evidence of our faith in Christ’s death and resurrection.  Baptism is a symbol of the cleansing that occurs when we accept Jesus as King and Messiah of our life.  AND don’t forget this is a free gift that God gives to all who believe!

APPLY

Q: Why did Christ suffer and die for our sins?

Q: Have you accepted the free gift of forgiveness and mercy from Jesus?  Have you publicly proclaimed that by getting baptized?  Are you actively choosing to become more like Jesus every day?

Q: How can you be a role model to others that have not accepted Jesus as their Savior?  Who are you praying for to make that commitment?

PRAY

"And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one."

God, Your gift of salvation is incredible!  Thank you for loving me and choosing me to be one of Yours!  Help clean my conscience and purposefully turn my life towards You! You Lord are worthy of all praise, honor and worship!
