READ

Romans 8:9-11

9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.

10 But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

REFLECT

The glorious truth of the gospel is that it has resulted in the abiding, empowering Spirit of God to indwell believers. The Jewish people understood the Spirit of God as temporarily resting on a person or place, and believed that the Spirit would not return until the Messiah’s coming. This is significant because it means that Paul took the indwelling of the Holy Spirit as a confirmation that Jesus was who he said he was and is reigning as Lord.

You do not have to rely on your own strength, wisdom, or power for your life. Within you, the Spirit of God is feeding and nurturing those qualities that he will use to further his kingdom.

APPLY

Q: What does it mean for the Spirit to dwell in you?

Q: What is an example of doing something on your own strength rather than in the Spirit?

Q: Do you know of someone who needs this encouragement?

SING

PRAY

"May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven."

Lord, help us to live by the Spirit to further your kingdom cause.
