ACTS 2:36-37
36 "Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”

37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”

REFLECT

Have you ever felt the weight of your sin? In a very real way, every person who has disobeyed God through action, word, or even thought participated in the crucifixion Jesus. As written in How Deep the Father’s Love for Us, “It was my sin that held him there until it was accomplished. His dying breath has brought me life; I know that it is finished.” This truth pierced the hearts of the listeners in Acts 2, but that’s actually a grace. This conviction by the Holy Spirit is the first step towards salvation. If you're feeling that weight today, don't despair. It's the Holy Spirit prompting you to seek God's forgiveness. Pray and ask God to reveal his truth to you, and to provide His promised cleansing and transforming power.

APPLY

Q: What is cutting you to the heart today? Is there a sin in your life that feels overwhelming?

Q: Confess it! And then join David’s cry in Psalm 51:17 "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me!”

Q: Are you or someone you know tempted to believe that your sin can’t be forgiven? Read again the words of the hymn - “His dying breath has brought me life. I know that IT IS FINISHED.”

PRAY

"Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy."

Father, you are so holy that when Jesus took my sin upon him at the cross, you had to look away. And yet you are so loving that you allowed him to suffer and die to bring me to life. And you are so powerful that you didn’t leave him there but gave him victory over sin and death, once and for all. Give me the grace to hold these truths together - you are holy and loving, and your power is limitless.
