READ

HEBREWS 11:13-16
“All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it. They agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on earth. Obviously people who say such things are looking forward to a country they can call their own. If they had longed for the country they came from, they could have gone back. But they were looking for a better place, a heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.”

ESTHER 4:14-16
“If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?”

Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: “Go and gather together all the Jews of Susa and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will do the same. And then, though it is against the law, I will go in to see the king. If I must die, I must die.”

REFLECT

Hebrews 11 reminds us that we are not alone when it comes to patience. There is a host of people who went before us who had to exhibit patience in all kinds of circumstances. Noah needed patience as he built the ark and waited for it to rain. David needed patience as he waited years for the fulfillment of kingship to take place. Joseph needed patience as he sat in prison for a wrong he didn’t do, waiting for the day his visions would come true. Esther needed patience as she waited for the perfect timing to approach the King for the saving of her people.

Esther knew that patience was the key to getting the answer she longed for. She waited on God’s timing and one of the greatest massacres was prevented. God’s timing is always better than our own and He will reveal the time for us to act if we simply go to Him first.

Q: Is there something you need to stop, fast, and pray about before moving forward in haste?

Q: Is there someone you need to remind that God’s timing is always better than our own and patience does reap a great reward?
