READ

John 1:1-5

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 He was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men.

5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

REFLECT

The darkness has not overcome it. Is that hard to believe? As we navigate a culture of political turmoil, social division, poverty, injustice, family dissension, disease, war, and famine, how often do we truly believe that light has won and darkness has lost? Some of us have actually been told that darkness is currently winning but one day, perhaps after Christ returns, light will win out. This is not the message of the gospel. Darkness has indeed been lost. It could not stamp out the light of the Lamb. Jesus is not awaiting his inauguration, He is king. He reigns right now.

APPLY

Q: Why does John say “He was in the beginning with God?”

Q: What does the reality of Christ’s kingship do to your perspectives on global issues?

Q: How can you incorporate the idea of Christ’s kingship into your discipleship efforts?
