1 Samuel 26:22-24

“Here is the king’s spear,” David answered. “Let one of your young men come over and get it. The LORD rewards everyone for their righteousness and faithfulness. The LORD delivered you into my hands today, but I would not lay a hand on the LORD’s anointed. As surely as I valued your life today, so may the LORD value my life and deliver me from all trouble.”

REFLECT

On the run from King Saul, David and his men hid in caves to escape capture. On two different occasions, David had the opportunity to strike Saul down and end it. David, however, decided to trust in God’s faithfulness and righteousness in each circumstnace. This also encouraged a deeper realization of God’s character. Though David was far from a perfect human, he did model faithfulness in many parts of his life.

PRAY

"May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven."

Lord God, your will is perfect and whole. Lead me by your Spirit to trust in your plans rather than my own. Lead me in obedience. Your will for the whole world is in your hands. Amen.
