Psalms 26:1-3 (NIV)

Vindicate me, LORD,
for I have led a blameless life;
I have trusted in the LORD
and have not faltered.
Test me, LORD, and try me,
examine my heart and my mind;
for I have always been mindful of your unfailing love
and have lived in reliance on your faithfulness.

REFLECT

When you’re hiking an unknown trail you look for the worn, cleared path. You want level terrain and easy steps. You know it will get you where you need to be because a more experienced hiker as already been there ahead of you. Now expand this level of trust to the whole cosmos. Think about our powerful God who flung the stars and conquered death through His son, Jesus. The psalmist expresses this same kind of trust in a God who’s already been there in everything. The writer trusts God enough to examine and “test” his heart. May we have this same trust and confidence in God with each step.

Q: What seems uncertain or dangerous in the trail of life for you? How can you increase your trust in God?

Q: How can you be a trailblazer for others in the faith? In other words, how can you motivate others to keep trusting God even when it’s not comfortable?
