READ

1 TIMOTHY 4:7-12

Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance. That is why we labor and strive because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe. Command and teach these things. Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

REFLECT

Paul shares some wise advice here with Timothy, a young leader in the faith, which also applies to your life. Your hope in the Living God brings endurance and joy in living in holiness for the sake of others. It’s interesting how Paul places holiness in a communal context. Of course, holiness reflects the nature of God and pleases Him. It also works outward, blessing and building up those around you. This is why it’s so important to grow in self control, to train yourself for godly living, and to love others as God has loved you.

"May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven."

Lord, your Kingdom is full of light and grace. Help me to train myself in holiness today for the sake of those around me. Show me who I can love more and encourage more. I love you and praise your good name! Amen.
