PSALMS 1:1-3

Blessed is the one

who does not walk in step with the wicked

or stand in the way that sinners take

or sit in the company of mockers,

but whose delight is in the law of the LORD,

and who meditates on his law day and night.

That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,

which yields its fruit in season

and whose leaf does not wither—

whatever they do prospers.

REFLECT

A tree’s roots gather the nutrients and moisture where it’s planted. A well-tended tree, that’s pruned and fertilized, and cared for, will produce fruit when planted in a good place. The fruit from a tree is meant to sustain others and to grow more trees. This beautiful metaphor for your life should spark reflection on where you’re planted and what’s sustaining your spiritual life.

APPLY

Q: What kind of person is producing fruit in season? How does the Psalmist describe them?

Q: Where are you drawing your nutrients and life from? What needs pruning or changing?

Q: Your obedience and holiness bless others. Who is benefitting from the fruit of your life?

SING

PRAY

"Give us today our daily bread."

Lord, you sustain me spiritually and physically. I cannot be holy without you, and I praise you for what your Son has done for me! Help me to grow fruit to bless others today. Amen.
